![]() Title: " Sails" Deion: Egg: Early egg, with plain exterior. The egg interior contains a sailing vessel in the foreground with a lighthouse in the background. The ship is rigged, as is typical of JAFO's work, with cigarette paper sails and 9x fishing line. He uses a mark one eyeball for the construction of these eggs. The largest of the three ships, to the right, is one half an inch. He did this egg for an article in a local magazine. This egg also demonstrates the difficulty in photographing them. Although he feels it is too crowded, this egg remains one of his favorites. Price: Private Collection |
![]() Title: "Lights for Sails" Deion: Egg: This egg illustrates an experimental jump in construction. The lighthouse and sailing ship are inside, but lighthouse on the back of the egg is painted on the outside. Metalic blue finger nail polish was used to paint the egg, both to beautify it and to harden it. Ric-rac, a finial and a ceramic stand complete the piece. Artist's Commentary "Being a father, I needed an inexpensive hobby. What's cheaper than a chicken's egg? With each egg, I try to use whatever I can find around the house or in inexpensive stores, e.g., ric-rac at Wal-Mart at 50c/yard, a dime store finial and a 50c ceramic stand. However, nothing goes in any egg unaltered; I want each egg to display what I create." |
